Disability Cornwall
Carers Rights

Set up by carers to support carers of people with learning disabilities throughout Cornwall. The carers we support are often the parents of adults with learning disabilities, some have been a carer for over 60 years but have not realised they can get any help.

We provide advocacy to support carers. Advocacy is taken action to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and secure services they need (Action for Advocacy Charter) .This can particularly be useful at times of crises and when they need to plan for the future.

Carers Rights

Carers Rights is independent, so carers often feel they can tell us their fears and problems and will be offered possible solutions without someone 'taking over.'

Carers appreciate the services we offer and have said we make such a difference to their lives - "we had a problem and we were helped all the way."

Information enables carers to find solutions. We support carers to refer to other services and assist them to take care of themselves, which is often very difficult for as they have to be focussed on the person they care for. We have helped many carers by providing advocacy and information individually and in groups as well as information stalls at many events.

If you know any carers of people with learning disabilities, please ask them to give us a ring as we always do our best to try and assist.
